They had Bangladesh at 45 for 3. But then, things flipped fast. Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mushfiqur Rahim stepped up big time. They scored unbeaten centuries and stayed together all day. Their batting performance turned the game around.

By stumps, Bangladesh reached 292 for 3. Shanto was 136 not out, and Mushfiqur was 105 not out. Their 247-run partnership stunned the Sri Lanka team. Fans loved every minute of it, like in CT 2025.

Bangladesh’s Rocky Start Turns into Glory

Mushfiqur Rahim

Bangladesh had a tough beginning in this cricket match. They won the toss and batted first. But Sri Lanka struck early. Asitha Fernando got Anamul Haque out for 1.

Then, debutant Tharindu Rathnayake joined the party. He took out Shadman Islam quickly. Next ball, he dismissed Mominul Haque. Bangladesh was stuck at 45 for 3. The Galle International Stadium crowd cheered for SL players. Their Sri Lanka bowlers looked strong. The pitch gave them some help, too. It seemed like a long day for Bangladesh.

But Najmul Hossain Shanto had other ideas. He came in and stayed calm. Mushfiqur Rahim joined him soon after. Together, they started fighting back.

They played smart and safe at first. Then, they attacked the spin bowling. Shanto hit a six off Tharindu early. That showed he meant business like New Zealand.

Mushfiqur stayed patient and picked his shots. Their partnership grew bigger and bigger. Sri Lanka couldn’t find an answer. Bangladesh turned a bad start into a great day.

By the end, they were in control. The World Test Championship points looked closer. Fans saw an amazing turnaround. Day one belonged to Bangladesh!

Shanto’s Big Century Saves the Day against SL

Najmul Hossain Shanto was the hero for Bangladesh. He scored 136 not out. It was his first Test cricket century since 2023. He came in at a tough time.

Bangladesh was 45 for 3 early on. Shanto faced just three balls then. He didn’t wait to show his skill. He smashed a six off Tharindu Rathnayake. That shot set the tone. He kept attacking the spin bowling. Ten of his 15 boundaries came off Tharindu. He stayed in control all day.

Shanto said, “The pitch was good for batting.” He stayed patient and waited. His 14 fours and one six proved it. He led his team like a true captain.

His batting performance lifted Bangladesh. They went from trouble to strength. The Sri Lanka bowlers tried hard but failed. Shanto’s knock was a game-changer against SL.

Fans cheered as he reached his hundred. It was a big moment for him. He hadn’t scored a century in a while. Now, he’s back on top after a solid domestic season.

With Mushfiqur, he built a huge stand. They didn’t give Sri Lanka a chance. Day one ended with Bangladesh happy. Shanto’s century made it special.

Shanto Targets the New Spinner

Shanto took on debutant Tharindu Rathnayake hard. Tharindu got two wickets early. But Shanto didn’t let him settle. He hit 10 boundaries off him.

Right away, he danced down and hit a six. That shook Tharindu’s confidence. Shanto kept the pressure on all day. He scored fast against the spin bowling like India against Australia.

Tharindu tried to fight back later. He slowed his runs a bit. But Shanto still won the battle. His smart play changed the cricket match. This attack helped Bangladesh take control. Shanto showed he’s a clever captain.

Mushfiqur’s Steady Hundred Wins Hearts

Mushfiqur Rahim played a super innings too. He scored 105 not out. It was his 12th Test cricket century. He hadn’t made a big score lately, like India lost to Zimbabwe in 2024.

His last fifty-plus was in 2024. But in Galle, he found his form. He loves batting in Sri Lanka. He even said it’s his favorite place. Mushfiqur came in at 45 for 3. He stayed calm with Shanto. He took his time to settle. Then, he picked the right balls to hit, like a godfather.

He said, “These runs weren’t easy.” SL made it tough. He spent 23 balls in the nineties. But he got his hundred in the end.

His batting performance was steady and smart. He and Shanto kept rotating the strike. That tired out the Sri Lanka bowlers. Together, they built a 247-run stand.

Mushfiqur has a great history in Galle. He made a double-century there in 2013. This time, he added another milestone. Fans loved his cool style. He praised Shanto, too. “He batted with great control,” he said. Their teamwork made Bangladesh strong. Day one was all theirs against SL bowlers.

Why Mushfiqur Loves Galle?

Bangladesh dominates

Mushfiqur really enjoys the Galle pitch. He said it’s great for batting. After Bangladesh, he loves Sri Lanka most. The wickets suit his game.

He told young players about it. “You can do well here,” he said. He likes the wind and the challenge. It makes batting fun for him. In 2013, he scored big in Galle. That was Bangladesh’s first double-hundred. Now, he added a century. He knows how to play here. His batting performance showed his skill. He stayed patient and won. Galle feels like home to him.

Conclusion

Day one of the 1st Test was thrilling in Galle. Bangladesh started shaky at 45 for 3. But Shanto and Mushfiqur turned it around. They scored big centuries and stayed unbeaten.

Their partnership of 247 runs was amazing. Bangladesh finished at 292 for 3. The Galle International Stadium saw Bangladesh take charge. Sri Lanka’s spin bowling couldn’t stop them. Now, day two is a big chance. Bangladesh wants to keep batting long. Shanto and Mushfiqur might add more runs. Sri Lanka needs quick wickets to fight back.

The World Test Championship is heating up. Fans can’t wait to see more action. Will Bangladesh stay on top? Or will Sri Lanka surprise everyone? Keep following the cricket updates from Galle!
